The Complete Perth Wedding Venue Guide 2025 — From Intimate to Grand

Choosing your wedding venue is the single biggest decision you'll make when planning your day. It sets the tone for everything that follows — the florals, the styling, the guest experience, and yes, the photography. Over nearly a decade of shooting weddings across Perth and Western Australia, we've worked at hundreds of venues. This guide shares what we've learned from the inside.

Perth has quietly become one of the world's great wedding destinations. The light here is extraordinary — that warm, golden afternoon glow that photographers dream about. The variety of venues is remarkable too: brutalist heritage buildings in Fremantle, lush Swan Valley vineyards, glamorous CBD rooftops, intimate garden estates, and everything in between. Whether you're planning a 20-person elopement or a 300-guest celebration, there's a Perth venue that was made for your wedding.

We've organised this guide by scale and style — starting with the most intimate venues and working up to the grand, show-stopping celebrations. Wherever you land on that spectrum, we'll share exactly what it's like to photograph there.

"The venue doesn't just affect how your wedding looks — it affects how it feels. And that feeling is what photographs."

Intimate & Boutique — The Small Wedding Done Beautifully

There's a quiet revolution happening in Perth weddings. More and more couples are choosing smaller, more intentional celebrations — events where every person in the room is truly close to them, where the food is exceptional, and where the day genuinely reflects who they are as a couple. These are some of our favourite weddings to photograph, because the emotion is concentrated and raw.

Fremantle · All-inclusive Elopement Package Available

The Old Courthouse, Fremantle

If there's one venue in Perth that photographs unlike anything else, it's the Old Courthouse. Built in 1899 and steeped in colonial history, the building sits on a quiet Fremantle street and contains a stunning heritage courtroom with soaring ceilings, timber detailing, and light that filters through tall windows in the most extraordinary way. We have photographed numerous elopements and intimate weddings here and it never gets old. The spiral staircase alone is worth the booking. The team at the Old Courthouse also offer an all-inclusive elopement package that includes the venue, a celebrant, and all the logistics — making it one of the most seamless options available in Perth for couples who want something intimate and completely stress-free. It's the kind of place that makes you feel like you've stepped back in time, which gives your images a timeless quality that contemporary venues simply can't replicate.

Elizabeth Quay · Rooftop & Water Views

Six Senses Restaurant, Elizabeth Quay

Six Senses sits at the water's edge at Elizabeth Quay and offers some of the most dramatic views of the Swan River and the Perth CBD that you'll find anywhere. We've photographed birthday celebrations and intimate dinners here and the space rewards great photography — the interplay between the interior lighting, the city skyline, and the water creates images that feel genuinely cinematic. For a smaller wedding or a stylish engagement party, it's hard to beat.

Bathers Beach, Fremantle

Bathers Beach House

Right on the sand in Fremantle, Bathers Beach House offers a relaxed, coastal setting with genuine warmth. The venue sits just metres from the water, which means ceremony photos with the Indian Ocean as a backdrop and golden-hour portraits on the beach immediately after. We've captured engagement parties and intimate weddings here and the combination of soft sea light, natural textures, and the easy Fremantle atmosphere makes it a dream to photograph. Perfect for couples who want their day to feel like a beautiful summer evening rather than a formal event.

Mid-Size — 50 to 150 Guests, Beautifully Done

This is the sweet spot for many Perth couples. Big enough to fill a room with people you love, small enough for the day to still feel personal. Perth's mid-size venue scene is extraordinarily strong — there are places here that would hold their own against anything in Melbourne or Sydney.

Swan Valley · Vineyard Setting

Caversham House, Caversham

Caversham House is one of the most photographed wedding venues in Western Australia, and there's a very good reason for that. The heritage homestead, surrounded by manicured gardens and set against the Swan Valley backdrop, creates a soft, romantic quality that's genuinely hard to manufacture elsewhere. We've shot many weddings here and always come away with something special — the garden archways, the dappled light through the established trees, the elegant interiors. It suits a wide range of styles, from classic garden parties to more formal seated dinners. The property also offers the golden hour advantage that Swan Valley venues generally enjoy: late afternoon light here is simply spectacular.

Fremantle · Historic Harbour Precinct

The Tradewinds Hotel, Fremantle

The Tradewinds is one of those venues that surprises you when you walk in. Set in a beautifully restored heritage building in Fremantle, it offers a warmth and character that modern purpose-built venues struggle to match. The rooms have genuine texture — exposed brick, warm lighting, and an atmosphere that makes every photo feel like it belongs in a lifestyle magazine. We've photographed multiple weddings here and love the flexibility the space offers: ceremony, cocktails, and reception all within one cohesive property. Fremantle's always-beautiful light doesn't hurt either.

Fremantle Heritage Reception 50–180 Guests
Crawley · Swan River

The Boat House, Crawley

The Boat House sits right on the Swan River in Crawley and offers a beautiful marriage of relaxed riverside setting and elegant event space. The water views are constant and exceptional — whether you're doing couple portraits on the jetty at dusk or a group photo with the river as a backdrop, every frame has an inherent depth and beauty. The venue suits couples who want something that feels elevated but not stiff, and the riverside setting means the light is almost always gorgeous in the afternoon.

Como · City Fringe

Como the Treasury

Como the Treasury is one of Perth's most celebrated luxury hotels, housed in the stunning heritage-listed Treasury Building in the heart of the CBD. As a wedding venue it offers a combination that's very hard to beat: impeccable service, extraordinary architecture (we're talking soaring ceilings, grand staircases, ornate detailing), and a sense of occasion that begins the moment your guests walk through the door. It photographs magnificently — the building itself does so much of the work, and with the right light it's truly breathtaking.

Grand & Show-Stopping — Big Weddings, Done Right

Some couples want scale. They want the full production: a 250-person seated dinner, a live band, a room that takes your breath away when the doors open. Perth has world-class venues for this, and they require photographers who understand how to work in them — managing complex light, coordinating with large vendor teams, and still finding the intimate, human moments within the spectacle.

Burswood · Crown Entertainment Complex

Burswood on Swan & Crown Perth

The Crown complex on the Burswood Peninsula offers some of the most impressive wedding facilities in the country. Burswood on Swan, perched right on the river with extraordinary views of the CBD skyline, is particularly special — the floor-to-ceiling windows create a frame around Perth's most iconic view, and the interior is polished and elegant without feeling cold. We've photographed multiple weddings here and the light through those windows at dusk is genuinely spectacular. The Crown complex more broadly gives you access to multiple ballrooms, breakout spaces, and outdoor terraces, with a service standard that matches the setting. For large, formal weddings, this is one of Perth's definitive choices.

100–400 Guests Luxury River Views Grand Ballroom
Kings Park · Perth Hills

Frasers Restaurant, Kings Park

Frasers occupies a position in Perth's wedding landscape that few venues can match. Perched at the top of Kings Park with panoramic views across the Swan River, the CBD, and the Darling Range, it's a venue where the setting does the heavy lifting and the kitchen does the rest. We've photographed weddings here where the sky turned pink and gold over the city at exactly the right moment and the whole room held its breath. The bush setting immediately outside also gives you access to natural, textured portrait backdrops that contrast beautifully with the elegant interior. A truly iconic Perth wedding choice.

Herne Hill · Swan Valley

Barrett Lane, Herne Hill

Tucked away in the Swan Valley at Herne Hill, Barrett Lane is one of our favourite venues for a more intimate, garden-style celebration. The function room is built from aged timber sourced from a vintage grape-drying rack, giving it genuine rustic character, while the manicured lawns and balcony vineyard views just outside create a soft, romantic backdrop. Photographically, it's a wonderful mix — the warm timber interior, the natural garden light, and that backyard intimacy that makes guests feel like they're somewhere genuinely personal. We've watched couples and their families fall completely in love with this space, and we feel the same every time we're there. If you're drawn to a relaxed, garden-set celebration with real character, Barrett Lane belongs at the top of your list.

Swan Valley · Vineyard & Estate

Quarry Farm, Whitby

Quarry Farm in Whitby is the kind of place that photographers dream about and couples never want to leave. A working farm estate transformed into a stunning wedding property, it offers a combination of rustic charm, lush grounds, and a genuinely remote feeling that's rare this close to the city. The old stone quarry walls create extraordinary portrait opportunities, and the wide open spaces allow for creative compositions that simply aren't possible in an urban setting. Sunsets here are consistently some of the most beautiful we've ever photographed. A long day at Quarry Farm, ending with a bonfire and fairy lights under an open sky, is a wedding experience that genuinely can't be replicated.

Chapel Farm, WA

Chapel Farm is a beautifully appointed estate venue with a stunning white chapel, manicured gardens, and a setting that manages to feel both grand and personal. It's a popular choice for a reason — the property photographs magnificently, the spaces flow well for a full-day event, and the combination of the chapel ceremony and garden reception creates visual variety that keeps your gallery interesting from first frame to last. The light on the lawns in the late afternoon is particularly beautiful.

A Photographer's Practical Tips for Choosing Your Perth Venue

Beyond the obvious things — capacity, catering, budget — here are a few things we always consider when evaluating a venue from a photography perspective. They're worth asking about before you sign.

Think about your light windows

The best portraits almost always happen in the 90 minutes before sunset. When you're planning your ceremony time, work backwards from sunset. If your ceremony finishes at 5pm in summer and sunset is at 7:30pm, you have a perfect portrait window. If your ceremony finishes at 7pm and sunset is at 7:30pm, you don't. Ask us about ideal timing for your venue and date — we know the light patterns for most Perth venues intimately.

Separate your ceremony and reception spaces visually

One of the most underrated photographic benefits of choosing a venue with distinct ceremony and reception spaces is the visual variety it creates in your gallery. Moving from an outdoor ceremony to an indoor reception naturally shifts the whole colour palette and mood of your images. It also gives your guests a sense of journey through the day, which creates more spontaneous moments to capture.

Check the wet weather options seriously

Perth is mostly beautiful, but November to March can bring sudden storms. A venue's wet weather plan is not just a logistical consideration — it directly affects your photos. A cramped, dark backup space will make your images look like a completely different wedding. Ask specifically: is the wet weather option genuinely as beautiful as the main option? At the best venues, the answer is yes.

Consider drone accessibility

Many of Perth's most stunning venues are within the controlled airspace zones around Perth Airport or Jandakot. We're licensed and experienced with CASA regulations, but it's worth knowing early on whether drone photography will be an option at your chosen venue. Swan Valley and outer Perth venues are generally more accessible than inner-city locations.

"The best venue for your wedding is the one that feels most like you. We can make any space look beautiful — but we can't manufacture the feeling of a place that genuinely resonates with you as a couple."

Finding Your Perfect Match

Perth's wedding venue landscape is genuinely world-class. Whether you're drawn to the intimate heritage charm of the Old Courthouse in Fremantle, the garden warmth of Barrett Lane in Herne Hill, the vineyard romance of Caversham House, or the grand sweep of Burswood on Swan — there's a venue here that was made for your wedding.

Our advice: visit at least three venues in person before committing. Photos online always look good — what you're trying to assess is how a space feels, how the light moves through it during the day, and whether you can imagine yourself and your people in it. Trust your gut on that last one. It's almost always right.

We've worked at every venue mentioned in this guide and many others across Perth and Western Australia. If you'd like our honest, experienced perspective on how your shortlisted venues photograph — or if you'd like to know which venues we're personally excited to shoot at next — we'd love to hear from you.
